E-Challan, Check Traffic Challan Status & Pay Fines Online

In the present scenario, everything is available online, whether shopping, payments, or banking, so why not punish people for violating traffic rules? Jokes apart, yes, you read it right, the fines can be paid online. How & why that we will discuss in this article in detail. While driving, we often see people violating traffic rules but are not caught by the eye of traffic police because of lesser manpower or insufficient technology & the person who does it thinks that he is intelligent enough to fool the traffic man.

To make these kinds of people civilized, the government has introduced the New Motor Vehicles Act of 2019, introducing new technology with more penalties. All this has been done to increase road safety and make people understand the value of punishment & fines. For the purpose of increasing road safety as well as decreasing the amount of corruption, an ITMS has been adopted, i.e., an Intelligence Traffic Management System, which helps monitor traffic.

Traffic E-Challan rules have already been activated in some larger cities and states, such as Delhi, Maharashtra, Haryana, Punjab, Gujrat, HP, J&K, Tamil Nadu, and Rajasthan. Two web portals are associated with this government E-Challan system: Vahan and Sarthi. These two web portals make it easier to make challan payments and check the status of Challans.

Traffic E-Challan

Normally, what happens is whenever any citizen breaks any traffic rule, such as crossing a red light or overspeeding, he is given a ticket which is called a manual challan but in large cities where the traffic is higher, it is not possible to keep an eye on all the traffic violators, so the people can escape easily.  But, MORTH, i.e. Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, has solved this problem by introducing traffic E-Challan, i.e. Traffic challan in electronic form.

The (ITMS) Intelligence Traffic Management System can be adopted by traffic man to issue traffic Challan. The main benefit of this system is the transparency in paying the traffic fines, which are collected directly in the RTO account. The traffic violators cannot just leave after paying a fraction of the fine to traffic personnel. This has certainly reduced the amount of corruption.

How Does an E-Challan Work

The E-challan is issued against those uncivilized drivers who break the traffic rules by crossing the red light, over-speeding, drunk driving, driving two-wheelers without a helmet, or driving a four-wheeler without a seat belt. The traffic personnel can issue the E-Challan in two ways – Either by pulling the vehicle manually for violation of rules or the traffic violations can be detected by traffic surveillance cameras or by handheld speed guns.

If the E-challan is issued to any vehicle owner, he has to visit the official RTO website, which is designated for E-challan payments, such as Vahan & Arthi. People can pay online E-Challan payments by debit card, credit card, or net banking without visiting the RTO office personally. The rule violator has to pay the E-Challan to avoid legal action & further stiff challan penalties.

Steps to make payment via E-Challan Online Method

Everyone is aware of the traffic rules but still commits mistakes, resulting in heavy challans being paid for. Now to make the payment of the traffic challan easier, the government has started E traffic challan systems. So, whenever you make any mistake that is against the road safety rules, such as jumping a red light, parking in a prohibited area, speeding, or driving without a seat belt.

Just be ready to receive the E-challan on the registered mobile number or residential address. After issuing the challan, you will get 60 days to pay the challan online using a credit card, debit card, or net banking. It is always advisable to pay the challan as soon as possible; otherwise, you have to pay a heavy penalty. Let us discuss the steps of the E-challan payment in detail –
