E-Challan, Check Traffic Challan Status & Pay Fines Online

In the present scenario, everything is available online whether it is shopping, payments or banking, then why not punish for violating traffic rules. Jokes apart, yes you read it right, the fines can be paid online. How & why that we will discuss in this article in detail. While we are driving, many times we see people violating traffic rules but not caught by the eye of traffic police because of lesser manpower or insufficient technology & the person who does it think that he is intelligent enough to fool the traffic man.

To make these kinds of people civilized, the government has introduced the New Motor Vehicles Act of 2019 in which new technology has been introduced with more penalties. All this has been done to increase road safety as well as making the people understand the value of punishment & fines. For the purpose of increasing road safety as well as decreasing the amount of corruption, ITMS has been adopted i.e. Intelligence Traffic Management System which is helpful in monitoring the traffic.

Traffic E-Challan rules have already been activated in some larger cities and states such as Delhi, Maharashtra, Haryana, Punjab, Gujrat, HP, J&K, Tamil Nadu & Rajasthan, etc. There are two web portals that are associated with such government E-Challans system – Vahan&Sarthi. With the help of these two web portals, it is easier to make challan payments as well as check the status of Challan.

What is Traffic E-Challan

Normally, what happens is whenever any citizen breaks any traffic rule such as crossing red light or over speeding, he is given a ticket which is called manual challan but in large cities where the traffic is more, it is not possible to keep an eye on all the traffic violators, so the people can escape easily.  But, MORTH i.e. Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has solved this problem by introducing traffic E-Challan i.e. Traffic challan in electronic form.

The (ITMS) Intelligence Traffic Management System can be adopted by traffic man to issue traffic Challan. The main benefit which can be observed by this system is the transparency in paying the traffic fines which are collected directly in the RTO account. The traffic violators cannot just leave after paying a fraction of the fine to traffic personnel. Because of this, it has certainly reduced the amount of corruption as well.

How Does an E-Challan work

The E-challan is issued against those uncivilized drivers who break the traffic rules by crossing the red light, over speeding, drunk driving, driving the two-wheelers without a helmet, or driving the four-wheeler without a seat belt. The traffic personnel can issue the E-Challan in two ways – Either by pulling the vehicle manually for violation of rules or the traffic violations can be detected by traffic surveillance cameras or by handheld speed guns.

If the E-challan is issued to any owner of the vehicle, he has to visit the official website of RTO which is designated for E-challan payments such as Vahan&Sarthi. People can pay online E-Challan payments by debit card, credit card, or net banking without visiting the RTO office personally. The rule violator has to pay the E-Challan to avoid legal action & further stiff challan penalties.
