The UP Board exam pattern has been changed. Now, students will need to study 10 subjects starting from the next session.
The UP Board is planning a significant change in the exam pattern for class 9th and 10th students, affecting over 50 lakh students. Starting from the academic session 2025-26, students will be required to study and take exams in 10 subjects instead of the previous 6.
The new mandatory subjects include three languages (Hindi being compulsory and two more from a list of languages), Mathematics, Science, and Social Science. Additionally, students will have to choose one subject from Home Science, Anthropology, Commerce, NCC, Computer, Agriculture, or Environmental Science. In the field of art education, they will have to choose one subject from Painting, Theatre, Singing, or Music.
Physical and Health Education subjects such as Moral Science, Yoga, Sports and Physical Education, and Social Service will be compulsory for all. Students will also have to select one vocational subject from a list of 31.
Furthermore, written examinations for Physical Education, Arts, and Vocational Education will be of 30 marks. These changes are expected to impact students studying in more than 27 thousand schools recognized by the UP Board.
The board plans to implement these changes gradually from the academic session 2025-26 and has invited suggestions from stakeholders by June 29 via email.
