UGC NET Exam Cancelled: According to the Ministry of Education, the UGC NET exam scheduled for June 18, 2024, has been cancelled due to a compromise in its sanctity. The decision to cancel the exam was made based on information from the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center (14C). Similar to the NEET exam, the UGC NET Exam is conducted by the National Testing Agency.
This cancellation comes at a difficult time for the NTA, which is already dealing with the NEET exam scam case. The Ministry of Education announced on Wednesday, June 19, that the exam will be conducted again, and the new date will be announced separately on ugcnet.nta.nic.in.
In addition, the Ministry has entrusted the CBI with the responsibility of investigating the irregularities in the UGC NET exam. It has emphasized the government’s commitment to maintaining the sanctity of examinations and protecting the interests of students. Strict action will be taken against any individual or institution found responsible for rigging the NET exam.
It’s important to note that the UGC NET exam, which qualifies candidates for Assistant Professor, Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), and PhD admission, was conducted in offline mode using pen and paper. NTA conducted the exam in two shifts on the same day, with approximately 9 lakh candidates appearing for it.
The UGC NET, which stands for University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test, is conducted for a total of 83 subjects for candidates with a master’s degree. Successful candidates are eligible for the position of assistant professor in universities and colleges. Those who fall within the top 6% cutoff are awarded the Junior Research Fellowship, which includes a stipend for research work provided by the Government of India. The exam is held twice a year, in June and December.
