The UPSC conducted the Civil Services Examination prelims on June 16, 2025. Over 13 lakh candidates appeared for the exam. Candidates were anticipating and concerned about changes in the paper pattern, particularly after the 2024 prelims included new question types. Experts suggested that these changes indicate a future shift in the exam pattern.
In the 2023 prelims exam, various new question types were introduced, such as statement relations and correct/incorrect type questions. Previous exam hints prompted candidates to prepare for these potential questions.
Furthermore, the 2024 prelims introduced two new question types: the relation between three statements and matching questions involving three columns. This suggests that future exams may include more of these question types, requiring candidates to adapt their preparation strategies.
UPSC IAS Exam Preparation for Mains after Prelims
It’s important to note that the UPSC CSE exam consists of three stages: prelims, mains, and interviews. Successful candidates in the prelims move on to the main exam, followed by the interview stage. After these three stages, the final list of selected candidates is released. Currently, candidates are focusing on preparing for the mains after the completion of this year’s prelims exam.
